On Friday, June 27th 2008, the Legislature of the City of Buenos Aires along with the "Argentina's Youth with a Mission", CAD ("Coalición Argentina Deportiva", Argentinian Sportive Coalition), invited all Federations, Confederations, Presidents and sportmen and women to the Tribute and Recognition Ceremony for the olympic sportmen and women that will be representing Argentina in the coming Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.

This Ceremony was held in the Golden Room of the Legislative Palace (Perú 160). The Ice Skating Federation (FAPH - Federación Argentina de Patinaje sobre Hielo) was represented by its Secretary, María Eugenia Cerezo, and its Assistant Secretary, María Fernanda Cerezo.

We appreciate the invitation and we congratulate all the organizers for this warm event that gratifies us as leaders and sportmen and women.

Last March 17th and 18th we’ve had the honor of welcoming with great joy the ice figure skating multichampion Michelle Kwan in The Ice Planet Flores and Avellaneda’s rinks.

Forty-three championships, including five World Championships, nine US National Championships (eight in a row) and two Olympic medals make Michelle Kwan the most prize-winning and the most world recognized skater in the history of the United States. Throughout her career she has received 57 perfect scores, thus beating any other skater in this sport’s history.

In November, 2006 the Secretary of State appointed Michelle as the first American Ambassador in Public Diplomacy and as such she has traveled to Argentina to pass her message to all youngsters in the country. Within those activities it was scheduled the visit to two ice rinks, places she couldn’t miss in her itinerary.

As a kind invitation from the United States Embassy in our country, this Federation was participated to be a part of this event, having the possibility to share that unforgettable moment with a privileged audience.

In the ice rink, Michelle starred a clinic with a group of our own skaters, youngsters selected by the Embassy’s initiative, who were able to receive instructions from the champion in an unforgettable experience and as a gesture of unparalleled humility and kindness.

With a leadership message for the youth and a clear foundation in her life of what is effort and what can willpower achieve, Michelle leaves us with a legacy of optimism, strength and renewed energy.

Thanks to Michelle for being with us, thanks to the United States Embassy for sharing this with us and thanks to our skaters, for giving us new reasons to keep on going everyday.

Let’s take Michelle’s philosophy as our own: "Work extra hard, be yourself and have fun!"

Thank you, Michelle!!!

Last Friday, February 15th., a delegation formed by three figure skaters and a couch traveled to the Republic of Korea to participate of the 2008’s Dream Program. This program is held every year, organized by Korea as a cultural and sportive promotion space, to unite youngsters up to 15 years old from all over the world who practice winter disciplines, such as figure skating, short track, ski, etc. Their motto is “You are all champions. We are all friends” and the event is held with that spirit, creating a friendship environment in which different cultures are shared and mixed through sports activities. It has a two week duration and its coverage is completely up to the Republic of Korea, through their Olympic Committee.

For us as a Federation, it is our pride to have been invited and to be able to send three young skaters, who have made a hard journey in their growth in the sport and they can now participate in this Program thanks to their merits.

Their names: Carolina Martínez Falco, Magalí Núñez Roldán and Nadia Rebay.

Accompanying them, a couch with many years of trajectory and the utmost prestige in this sport: Mr. Ricardo Hastings, who has been training skaters for many years and has accompanied delegations in several opportunities.

We are certain that this group will rightly represent the honor and sport spirit that is taught to everyone who participates in this sport.
